Details
FLEXICOAT is a blend of rubber latex and bitumen emulsion suitable for use in a variety of construction situations. The
rubber gives low temperature flexibility and resistance to softening in warm conditions.
Typical Applications
As a Protective Coating On Bridge
Abutments:
Thoroughly clean the surface to remove all dust, dirt, grease and foreign matter. Brush-dampen the surface with clean water or apply a priming coat using a 1-5 mixture of FLEXICOAT and clean water. Apply one coat of FLEXICOAT. As soon as this first coat is touch dry, apply a second
coat.
Waterproofing Walls Prior To
Plastering:
Internal walls can be treated with
FLEXICOAT to provide waterproofing and a key for the plaster treatment.
Brush apply one coat of FLEXICOAT onto the cleaned wall and allow to dry. A second coat is then applied and should be blinded while still wet with clean sharp
sand, which will act as a key for bonding the plaster. Allow at least 24 hours for the blinded coat of FLEXICOAT to dry before
plastering.
Damp Proof Membrane Under
Concrete And Roof Screeds
(Sandwich Membrane):
Thoroughly clean the surface of the lower slab to remove all dirt, dust and foreign matter.
Depending upon the porosity of the slab a priming coat of FLEXICOAT and clean water in the ratio of 1 part emulsion to 5
parts water may be needed. One coat of FLEXICOAT should be brush applied evenly over the slab and the membrane should be continued up the walls to link with the existing damp courses. As soon as the first coat is dry, apply a
second coat and blind with clean, coarse dry sand. This will protect the membrane while the screed is being placed, and will
act as a key. If required, a reinforcing membrane may
be used to cover the junction between the subfloor and wall.
Repairs Of Cracks In Black Top
Surfacing And Concrete:
Fine cracks may be conveniently filled with FLEXICOAT but larger cracks up to about 6mm are best treated with a mixture of 2
parts by volume of FLEXICOAT to 1 part of fine sand. For cracks over 6mm use the filled mixture described above plus about
10% by volume of cement. The joint
must be thoroughly cleaned and the
stirred FLEXICOAT poured in, or in the case of the filled material poured and squeegeed in. If it is to be trafficked
immediately blind with sand to prevent pick up. Larger cracks may require topping up after 24 hours.
Fixing Woodblocks and Panel
Parquetry:
Woodblocks of minimum 14mm (½”)
thickness should be dipped bottom face only into FLEXICOAT and placed immediately into position. This process is made easier if a shallow container is available into which a small amount of
FLEXICOAT is poured. Alternatively, and
for fixing panel parquetry, FLEXICOAT is spread evenly over a small area at a time and the panels placed into position. On a very porous surface it is advisable to use a priming coat of 1:5 mixture of FLEXICOAT and clean water allowed to dry before carrying out the above procedure.
General
Protect unused material from frost and do not apply at temperatures below 5c.
Drying time is normally 3-6 hours but may be extended in humid conditions or places without adequate ventilation. Do not use when there is a danger of frost or rain before the materials has completely dried.
Coverage
Generally a coverage of 0.6-0.9 litre/sq.m per coat is achieved.
Cleaning
Wash FLEXICOAT off tools etc with cold water before it has set. If however the material has hardened, remove with paraffin or white spirit.
Storage
Keep in a closed container and protect from frost.
Containers
Material supplied in 25L Container.
